A Large And Spirit Filled Commode

A friend of mine is a rather old-fashioned lady and always quite delicate and elegant, especially in her language.  She and her husband were planning a camping trip to The Thousand Islands in Upstate New York on the St Lawrence River so she e-mailed Cedar Point State Park and asked for a reservation.  She also wanted to make sure the campground was fully equipped, but didn't know quite how to asked about the toilet facilities.  She just couldn't bring herself to type the word "toilet" in an e-mail that was being sent to a perfect stranger.

After much soul searching she finally decided the old-fashioned phrase "bathroom commode" would be appropriate for her e-mail request.  But when she typed those two words and saw them on the screen, she still thought she was being too forward.  So she deleted bathroom commode and typed, "Does your campground have its own BC?".  My friend was quite comfortable with that.  She clicked "send" and waited for a reply.

Well, the park attendant who received the e-mail was not old-fashioned at all and when he read the e-mail it really stumped him.  He couldn't figure out what the lady meant when she asked if the campground had a "BC".  He asked several staffers at the campsite and they didn't have a clue.  He even asked several campers and they didn't know either.  After several days of racking his brain, the park ranger decided thee only thing the lady was referring to was the Baptist Church down the road.

So he sent my friend the following reply...

Dear Madam,

I regret much the delay in answering your letter, but I now take the pleasure of informing you that a BC is located a ways down the road from the campground and is capable of seating about 500 people at a time.  I admit it is quite a distance away if you are in the habit of going regularly, but no doubt you'll be pleased to know that there are group sessions for men, women and children.  Some of these group meetings are all day affairs so people bring lunches with them.

The last time my wife and I went we had to stand up the whole time we were there.  It may interest you to know that right now there is a supper planned to raise money to buy more seats.  The meal will be served in the BC community hall.

I would like to say that it pains me much not to go more regularly, but it is surely no lack of desire on my part.  As we grow older it seem to be more of an effort, particularly when it is cold outside.  If you decide to make reservations at our campground, perhaps I could go with you the first time to the BC, sit with you, and introduce you to all the other folk.

Remember, Clayton is a friendly community.
