Suprise, Surprise, Suprise

Sen. Obama, Congressional Record, S.2237-8, 3/16/06

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Rome was invincible, until they beat themselves and the sun never set on the British Empire, until it did, piece by piece. There was a reason why and it's written in the annals of history. Which will America do? Beat ourselves or allow others to take us to the woodshed? I'm betting on neither because the history of Americans is unique. Our forefathers were the tired, poor, wretched masses yearning to be free. They had the courage to say...We don't want to live by your rules any longer, we'd rather go to a nearly uncharted territory, risk death at sea to get there and endure a wilderness with hostile natives and probable death by starvation, than live under your thumbs. It is the nature of our beast, if you will. When conditions in our new land became unbearable due to taxation without representation, we tried to reason with George III and years of failure cause us to revolt and we punched him squarely in the nose. Being an American isn't a as much of a nationality, but more of a statement....one that shouts "Don't Tread on Me". Our nature as mavericks is inbred and as a result we will,in my opinion, begin again our revolution. Why? Because we are right back where we began....taxation without representation. I say this because I am being taxed, put into debt and IGNORED by my representatives. I consider THAT taxation without representation and I am one angry American. An American of the same ilk that said eff you in 1776 and I proudly proclaim that I am a Tea Partier. The names and faces may change but the concept is the same...... King George is Barack Obama and his minions are the US Congress. No conspiracy theory, just an observation from an "unenlightened" American. Will someone please turn out the lights so everyone else can see what I see.
